Reddit.com: Using the "Front Page of the Internet" to Bolster Your Brand

Image
Launched in 2005, reddit.com is a massive aggregation of social news that promotes discussion amongst its 330 million users. Success on Reddit is based on the users’ decision to “upvote” and “downvote” posts. Known as the “Front Page of the Internet,” Reddit is an incredible resource for all of your social marketing needs, IF you do it correctly. According to spinweb.com , “the close-knit community can turn on you like a pack of rapid wolverines if they get even a whiff of insincere marketing jargon from you or your post.” This means that your marketing strategies need to be a part of the discussion and not leading the discussion. Entering the world of Reddit may be a daunting task, but the following information will help your brand succeed. First, your brand needs to be represented as a part of the community. Learning the lingo and posting dynamic content that Reddit users will find entertaining and engaging is no easy task, but with research, your brand can find it’s n...

LinkedIn: Money, Marketing, and More Money

Image
LinkedIn is a unique social media platform from my previous blog entries because it is an employment-oriented platform that primarily revolves around business-to-business (B2B) marketing, rather than the typically known business-to-consumer marketing that you see on Instagram or Snapchat. B2B marketing is the exchange of products, services, or information between businesses. While B2B marketing can, and does, happen on Facebook and Twitter, LinkedIn is especially productive in this type of marketing. Just like I mentioned in my Pinterest blog, you have to make sure that you business fits the social media platform. Can your business benefit from building its industry network or finding vendors to outsource services that you business cannot do? Then maybe LinkedIn may be right for you. LinkedIn was rated the number one site for B2B marketing, as well as the number one social media site used for product launches. ( Emarketer.com ) Other reasons why you B2B marketing cou...

Pinterest: A "Virtual Storefront" May be Just What Your Business Needs

Image
Launched in 2010, Pinterest is a digital pinboard that allows you to categorize visually appealing images that inspire individuals to do, create, and most importantly buy ! By setting up a “virtual storefront” your Pinterest for Business account can be a perfect one stop shop for consumers to engage with your content and maximize your brand’s return on investment. Some of the most successful businesses on Pinterest have been been from the fashion, design, wedding, and food industries , but even large corporations are taking advantage. Just look at Nordstrom’s Pinterest page that has over 4.5 million followers, or Target that has 604 thousand followers and over 10 million monthly viewers. There are so many other Pinterest accounts generating a ton of social media buzz and establishing themselves as real forces in the marketing world. YouTube: Make Your Business Go Viral

Image
Without a doubt, YouTube is a phenomenal platform for all of your social media marketing needs. No matter your industry or size, it is my firm belief that any business can, and should, benefit from this platform. With over one and half billion monthly active users, five billion videos watched every day, and being the second largest search engine in the world, after Google, YouTube can be considered one of the greatest juggernauts of social media. ( omnicoreagency.com ) In 2005, YouTube helped to revolutionize the way media content is created and distributed via the internet. Users became the content creators and distributors, rather than passive consumers of media content distributed by professionals and corporations. On YouTube, the everyday person can become a star and a small company can create content that goes viral. It just depends on if you are maximizing the features of YouTube to make it work for you. This blog will cover how to successfully navigate your business’ n...

Facebook: Over 2 Billion Opportunities for Your Business to Grow

Image
Last year, I reached my 10th year anniversary on Facebook. It was an intimidating notification to receive, as I like to pretend I’m not getting any older. On my 10th anniversary, Facebook presented me with an elaborate video that chronicled my a decade's worth of wall posts, photos, and comments.  It’s a digital scrapbook that spans my high school days, all the way to where I am now, a PhD student in Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University.   While my Facebook and I have had moments of “It’s complicated,” I can’t help but cherish my profile and the easy access to businesses around the world. Facebook may not be the trendiest platform out there right now, but it certainly has been the most influential in the history of social media. Facebook is constantly developing features that keep its billions of users coming back. Now that Facebook has bought Instagram and the developers are implementing new features every day, it is my position that Face...

Snapchat: A Leading Force in Social Media Marketing

Image
It’s now time to discuss one of my favorite social media platforms, Snapchat. This app, started in 2011, offers social media marketers bountiful opportunities for direct engagement with their audiences by delivering lightening fast content and by giving users an all access pass behind the scenes of your brand.   Many wildly popular advancements in social media technology have stemmed from Snapchat. As previously noted in my Instagram blog, Snapchat was influential in popularizing the stories feature that has now flourished on Instagram and Facebook. Snapchat has also been known as the driving force of geofilter technology, as well as, filters and face swapping. This social media platform engages with its users in ways that many others cannot. Snapchat has been personally one of my favorite social media platforms because I can post even the most mundane things and not feel shameful about it. Within my own personal use, it always seemed that Facebook sh...
